Pacifica Salmon Limited
Finfish Production

Pacifica Salmon was formed in 2000 to investigate opportunities for Finfish Aquaculture Development in New Zealand, principally the top of the South Island.

The company’s largest shareholder is Pacifica Seafoods parent company, ‘The Skeggs Group’.

With Aquaculture the fastest growing sector of the world's food production industry, we believe that our region, blessed with a temperate climate and the bulk of New Zealand’s licensed Aquaculture Management Areas, has many strategic and competitive advantages that allow for ecologically considerate development of Finfish Aquaculture.

New Zealand Greenshell Mussel Aquaculture has already become world renowned, not just for the quality and value of this product, but the industry's commitment to sustainability, coupled with our pristine environment and unsurpassed monitoring systems to ensure food safety.

Pacifica Salmon shareholders collectively own over 70 Marine Farming Sites; our broad philosophy is to ensure effective utilisation and value-creation from these Marine sites, generating wealth for our shareholders, the local economy and New Zealand.
Pacifica Salmon has a focus on Finfish Aquaculture, with initial R&D into farming of Yellowtail Kingfish on an integrated platform, in conjunction with our existing Shellfish Aquaculture.

This ‘polyculture’ approach, using existing marine farm licences, will bring enhanced productivity and value to our operations, including the assimilation of the nitrate outputs of our finfish production by phytoplankton, and consequent enhancement of the filter-feeding Greenshell Mussel.

While we continue R&D into Kingfish and more laterly investigating Groper production, we are currently focused on the Commercial Production of King Salmon.

King Salmon is the most prized of all Salmon species, and commands a premium market position; demand has continued to strengthen in recent years.

Pacifica Salmon conducted research and farming trials through 2006-7, commencing commercial production in late 2007.
Our firsts harvests are scheduled to commence in October 2008.
